Paris Court Rejects France's Bid to Suspend Shein's Website Over Controversial Products
A Paris court has rejected France's bid to suspend Shein's website over the sale of childlike sex dolls and weapons, deeming the request disproportionate. Instead, the court ordered the implementation of age verification measures for the sale of adult items and imposed fines of €10,000 per breach.
The case arose after France's consumer watchdog reported Shein to authorities for selling sex dolls with a childlike appearance and weapons, although these incidents were considered isolated among hundreds of thousands of products on the platform. Following notification, Shein removed the offending items and had already announced a global ban on sex dolls on its site.
Furthermore, a French government request to suspend third-party items on Shein's site was also rejected by the court.
The court's decision coincided with Shein opening its first physical store in Paris, despite ongoing protests over its product offerings. Shein stated its commitment to continue improving control processes and comply with French laws to protect consumers.
