Paris Labour Court Orders PSG to Pay Kylian Mbappé Over €60m in Unpaid Wages and Bonuses
The Paris labour court (Conseil de prud’hommes) has ordered Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to pay Kylian Mbappé over €60 million in unpaid wages and bonuses related to the end of his contract before his 2024 move to Real Madrid.
PSG had sought €440 million in damages, including €180 million for the lost transfer opportunity after Mbappé left on a free transfer.
While the ruling can be appealed and is unlikely to end the ongoing dispute, Mbappé’s representatives stated the decision confirms that commitments must be honoured and that labour law applies to everyone in professional football. PSG did not immediately comment on the ruling.
This dispute stems from Mbappé’s decision in 2023 not to extend his contract. He subsequently joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 on a free transfer after seven years at PSG.
PSG had offered Mbappé the club’s most lucrative contract in 2022; his departure deprived PSG of a potential transfer fee.
During the dispute, Mbappé was sidelined from a pre-season tour and missed the opening league game but returned to play a final season amid ongoing disagreements.
PSG accused Mbappé of backing out of an August 2023 agreement that allegedly included a pay reduction if he left on a free transfer, claiming he concealed his decision not to extend for about 11 months from July 2022 to June 2023.
Mbappé’s camp countered by saying PSG never produced evidence of any agreement to forego payment and claimed the club failed to pay wages and bonuses for April to June 2024. Mbappé asserts he fulfilled his obligations for seven years and has sought payments for more than 18 months.
Notably, PSG won the Champions League in 2025 without Mbappé.
