Patrick Mahomes Suffers Torn ACL, Chiefs' 2025 Season Ends Prematurely
On December 14, 2025, Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers. His knee buckled while scrambling and he was hit by Chargers player Da’Shawn Hand. An MRI confirmed the severity of the injury, and Mahomes is officially out for the remainder of the 2025 season.
The Chiefs lost the game to the Chargers and were eliminated from postseason contention, finishing the season with a 6-8 record. Mahomes concluded the season with 3,398 passing yards and 22 touchdown passes. This loss ends Kansas City's streak of reaching the AFC Championship every season since 2018 and playing in the Super Bowl for the past three seasons, in which they won two titles.
After the game, head coach Andy Reid acknowledged the severity of Mahomes' injury, stating it "didn't look good" and that the team would monitor the situation. Mahomes himself posted a message on X expressing his disappointment but reaffirmed his commitment to recovery and returning stronger. He also thanked Chiefs Kingdom and those who sent prayers.
