Perry Bamonte, Guitarist for The Cure, Dies at 65
Perry Bamonte, guitarist and longtime member of the band The Cure, died at age 65. His death was announced on 26 December 2025 by The Cure following a short illness at his home over the Christmas period.
Bamonte officially joined The Cure in 1990 after keyboardist Roger O'Donnell left the band. Prior to this, he had worked with the band as a roadie and guitar technician from 1984 to 1989. Throughout his tenure, he played guitar, six-string bass, and keyboard.
He contributed to several of the band's albums, including Wish (1992), Wild Mood Swings (1996), Bloodflowers (2000), and The Cure (2004), participating in The Cure's post-Disintegration era. He was featured on hits such as "Friday I’m in Love" and "High" from the album Wish.
Bamonte was fired by lead singer Robert Smith in 2005 after performing more than 400 shows over 14 years. However, he rejoined the band in recent years, touring extensively in 2022 with around 90 gigs.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with The Cure in 2019.
His last performance with The Cure took place on 1 November 2024 in London for the event Songs of a Lost World. This concert was filmed and released as The Cure: The Show of a Lost World, which premiered in cinemas worldwide in December 2025 and was made available on Blu-ray and DVD.
