Philip Rivers Makes Emotional NFL Return as Semifinalist for Pro Football Hall of Fame
Philip Rivers, 44, recently made a surprising comeback to the NFL by joining the Indianapolis Colts and playing his first game in nearly five years. His return was marked by a performance against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field, where the Colts lost on a walk-off field goal. Rivers completed 18-of-27 passes for 120 yards, including one touchdown and one interception, culminating in a 73.1 passer rating.
Rivers is scheduled to start in the upcoming Monday night game against the San Francisco 49ers. Alongside his return, it was revealed that the league extended his health insurance coverage for an additional five years after retirement.
Notably, Rivers, who is a semifinalist for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame, had his eligibility for the Hall of Fame postponed five years, now qualifying in 2031. Reflecting on his return, Rivers described the experience as emotional and expressed hope that it would serve as a positive example for his sons and the players he coaches at his school.
