Philip Rivers Returns to Colts on One-Year Deal with Extended NFL Health Insurance
Philip Rivers has returned to the Indianapolis Colts on a one-year contract worth the veteran minimum of $1.255 million, prorated over four games for a take-home pay of $278,889. Rivers, who retired after the 2020 NFL season, had previously played for the Colts as his last team before retiring. His return comes as a key family incentive alongside an extension of his NFL health insurance through 2030, adding five more years to his post-career coverage. As a father of 10, this extended health insurance is an important benefit for Rivers.
The Colts, who started the season 8-2 but then experienced a four-game losing streak, remain in the AFC playoff race. Head coach Shane Steichen committed Rivers for the Monday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers. In his first game back, Rivers completed 18 of 27 passes for 120 yards with one touchdown and one interception, ending in an 18-16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks and posting a passer rating of 73.1.
