Police Report Details Assault Allegations Against Patriots' Stefon Diggs; NFL Star Denies Claims
Dedham District Court documents allege felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery involving New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs. The allegations stem from an incident on December 2 involving a private chef employed by Diggs.
According to a police report, the accuser went to Dedham Police on December 16 and stated that Diggs became angry during a dispute over payment. She alleged that Diggs smacked her, attempted to choke her with his elbow around her neck causing difficulty breathing, and threw her onto a bed while calling her "lies" when she said she had not been paid. The disputed payment concerned a week in November while Diggs was hosting guests. The woman left the home but returned on December 9 to retrieve her property. She was instructed to sign a non-disclosure agreement before receiving payment but did not sign it.
Diggs is scheduled to be arraigned on January 23, though the judge may reschedule the date. This comes shortly before the AFC Championship Game on January 25.
Attorney David Meier, representing Diggs, categorically denies the allegations and describes the issue as an employer-employee financial dispute that did not happen. Another attorney, Michael DiStefano, stated Diggs proposed financial compensation to resolve the matter and requested the police report be impounded to keep details sealed, with negotiations ongoing.
The New England Patriots released a statement confirming Diggs denies the allegations and that the team will cooperate with authorities and the NFL but offered no further comment due to the legal matter being active. The NFL stated it is aware of the situation, has communicated with the club, and declined further comment.
Diggs signed a three-year contract with the Patriots this offseason. In his first season with the team, he recorded 970 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 16 games. He recently welcomed a child with Cardi B.
