Reform UK Claims to Have Surpassed Labour in Membership Numbers
Reform UK claims to have over 268,000 paid-up members, reportedly surpassing Labour, which Labour figures say are below 250,000 according to The Times. Labour has stated that its membership figures will be disclosed in the annual report and does not provide running commentary; these figures are not independently verified and there is no legal obligation for Labour to publish them.
Reform UK counts its members through a live online counter that includes only those paying an annual fee (£25) or under-25s paying £10. Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, asserted that Reform has overtaken Labour and declared that the era of two-party politics is over, citing Reform’s lead in national polls since spring.
Labour membership has declined since Keir Starmer became leader in April 2020. End-of-year Labour accounts showed membership at 333,235, down from over 530,000 under Jeremy Corbyn, with a drop of about 37,000 in 2024 and continuing declines. The Times and LabourList figures cited vary, with LabourList estimating approximately 309,000 members earlier and The Times suggesting figures now below 250,000; these numbers are not consistently verified across sources.
In context, other parties' memberships include Conservatives at around 123,000; Liberal Democrats about 60,000; the Green Party increasing to roughly 180,000 under new leader Zack Polanski; and Your Party with approximately 55,000 members.
