Retired NASCAR driver Greg Biffle's plane crashes at Statesville Regional Airport
A plane owned by retired NASCAR driver Greg Biffle crashed and exploded into flames while attempting to land at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. The aircraft, a Cessna C550, had just taken off before attempting to turn back and land. The crash occurred at 10:15 a.m. local time on Thursday, December 18, 2025. There were reportedly multiple fatalities, although it has not been immediately confirmed whether Biffle was aboard the plane.
FAA officials were en route to the crash site, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation into the incident.
Greg Biffle's NASCAR career spanned 20 years, during which he achieved 19 Cup Series wins. His final Cup race was the 2022 Geico 500 at Talladega, and he was named one of NASCAR's 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023. In addition to owning this aircraft, Biffle also owns a helicopter which he used in a rescue effort following Hurricane Helene in September 2024.
