Ric Edelman Advocates for 10%–40% Crypto Allocation Amid Institutional Adoption and Market Dips
Ric Edelman, co-founder of Edelman Financial Engines which manages approximately $300 billion in assets for about 1.3 million clients, has updated his portfolio crypto allocation guideline to between 10% and 40%, as detailed in a June white paper. This recommendation marks a shift from his previous advocacy of low single-digit allocations and reflects increased regulatory clarity and institutional engagement in the cryptocurrency sector.
Edelman views the current declines in cryptocurrency prices, including Bitcoin trading under $90,000 and dropping to around $81,000 in November, as strategic buying opportunities for long-term investors. The white paper forecasts Bitcoin’s market capitalization could reach roughly $19 trillion — an increase of about 955% from its current base near $1.8 trillion.
Highlighting growing institutional exposure, Harvard University recently disclosed a $116 million position in the BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). This institutional participation, combined with broader adoption by Fortune 500 companies, illustrates an increasing integration of crypto assets within traditional finance frameworks.
Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas characterized Edelman's remarks as the most significant traditional finance endorsement of cryptocurrency since Larry Fink, signaling heightened mainstream acceptance and a potential new era of TradFi adoption driven by enhanced regulatory certainty and institutional involvement.
