Ricky Evans Upsets James Wade at PDC World Darts Championship Amidst Walk-On Music Changes
In a dramatic second-round match at the PDC World Championship held at Alexandra Palace, Ricky Evans triumphed over James Wade 3-2. Wade, seeded seventh and the highest seed eliminated so far, faced a tough challenge as Evans missed seven match darts before sealing victory with a 99 finish.
Wade managed a 170 checkout to level the second set, but Evans responded with a decisive 13-dart leg to claim the third set and build his lead. Despite missing multiple opportunities late in the match, Evans held on to advance.
Throughout the tournament, Ricky Evans had been entering matches to the song "Merry Christmas Everyone" but hinted he might switch his walk-on music to "Like a Prayer" once the festive season concluded.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Kenyan debutant David Munyua’s run ended with a 3-0 loss to Kevin Doets after earlier defeating Mike De Decker, earning praise from Kenya’s president, William Ruto, for his tournament debut. Gabriel Clemens secured a 3-0 victory over Wessel Nijman and is set to face either Luke Humphries or Paul Lim in the next round. Additionally, Latvian number one Madars Razma defeated Scotland’s Darren Beveridge 3-1 in the same session.
