Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Found Dead; Nick Reiner Arrested in Los Angeles
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer, 68, were found dead at their Brentwood home on the first day of Hanukkah. Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 3:30 pm medical-aid call, and the LAPD is investigating the deaths as apparent homicides. Rob Reiner and Michele Singer were discovered with wounds consistent with a knife attack, according to TMZ and People. Rob Reiner has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump, and Michele Singer was a photographer known for a portrait of Trump for The Art of the Deal. The couple met in 1989 on the set of When Harry Met Sally, introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld.
Police have noted that robbery-homicide detectives are involved in the case. Although a family member is being interviewed, authorities are not currently seeking a suspect or person of interest. Nick Reiner, 32, a screenwriter and the son of the couple, was arrested in Los Angeles Sunday night and taken into custody. Bail was set at $4 million. Records allege felony gang activity involving Nick Reiner but provide no further details. He co-wrote the 2015 film Being Charlie, which draws on his own experiences with addiction and homelessness; he reportedly underwent rehab more than 17 times by age 22.
The deaths have deeply affected the family; Michele Singer’s sister is a rabbi, and their mother is a Holocaust survivor who lost most of her family. A family spokesperson confirmed the deaths and requested privacy during this difficult time.
