Robinhood Expands into Indonesia through Acquisition of Local Brokerage and Crypto Trading Firms
Robinhood has announced agreements to acquire Indonesian brokerage Buana Capital and OKJ-licensed crypto trader PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, marking its entry into the Indonesian market. The deal price was not disclosed, with closing expected in the first half of 2026.

Indonesia reportedly has about 17 million crypto traders and over 19 million capital market investors. According to the Chainalysis 2025 index, Indonesia ranks 7th globally and 1st in Southeast Asia for crypto adoption. The World Bank Global Findex 2025 report shows financial account ownership in Indonesia increasing from approximately 20% of adults in 2011 to around 60% by 2024.
Recently, Indonesia has tightened crypto regulations, increasing offshore platform taxes fivefold, doubling VAT on crypto mining to 2.2%, and raising taxes on domestic crypto sales and overseas exchange transactions. The government is also exploring Bitcoin as a potential reserve asset to support long-term financial stability.
