Robinhood Expands Sports Event Contracts with Wagering Capabilities for NFL Playoffs
Robinhood has expanded its sports event contracts to include wagering capabilities, allowing users to place bets on precise football statistics such as touchdowns, receiving yards, and rushing yards. This rollout is timed to coincide with the NFL playoffs in January 2026 and is part of Robinhood's updated sports-focused prediction markets.
The platform introduces 'preset combos', which combine multiple event contracts into parlay-like bets. These bets only pay out if all components resolve correctly, enhancing the betting experience. Additionally, Robinhood has added New Player Contracts that enable tracking and trading of individual professional football player performances, with plans to extend similar contracts to other sports.
Since launching its prediction markets in 2024, Robinhood's users have traded 11 billion contracts among more than 1 million customers. Adam Hickerson, Robinhood's senior director of futures, highlighted that the company has been early to market and continues to refine its product amid growing competition.
JB Mackenzie, Vice President and General Manager of Futures and International, stated that the new updates aim to deliver novel customer experiences along with more advanced order types and trading capabilities. Alongside these sports wagering enhancements, Robinhood also announced updates to its Cortex AI investing assistant.
