Russia claims drone attack on Putin's residence amid ongoing Ukraine peace talks
Russia has claimed that a drone attack targeted President Vladimir Putin's state residence in the Novgorod region. Moscow reported that 91 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles attacked overnight, but air defences purportedly intercepted them, resulting in no damage or casualties. However, Russia has yet to release any photographic evidence of the attack.
Ukraine, through its foreign minister Andrii Sybiha, has dismissed the claim, stating there is no plausible evidence to support it. Sybiha described the assertion as a political tactic aimed at justifying further Russian strikes and disrupting ongoing peace negotiations. Kyiv alleges the claim is being used to undermine diplomatic efforts.
The incident comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump engage in talks in Florida focused on a revised 20-point peace plan. Both leaders expressed progress and a commitment to continue the peace dialogue.
Additionally, the United Arab Emirates, India, and Pakistan reportedly expressed concern over the alleged attack, contrasting their silence over a real Russian missile strike on September 7, 2025, which targeted Ukraine's government building.
