Russia Launches Wide-Scale Attack on Kyiv with Air-Raid Alerts and Infrastructure Strikes
Russia launched a wide-scale attack on Kyiv overnight, triggering air-raid alerts that lasted about four hours. The assault caused fires and burned-out cars across several districts of the city, with air defenses engaged and explosions heard. Damage is still under assessment and casualties remain unconfirmed.
This attack preceded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's planned talks with former US President Donald Trump in Florida. Zelenskyy’s 20-point peace framework, shared with the US, has been sent to Russia and is currently under consideration by Moscow.
In response to the Russian strikes on Ukraine, Poland closed two airports, Rzeszow and Lublin, and scrambled jets as a precautionary measure.
Russia has also targeted Ukraine's oil and gas infrastructure for the second consecutive night. According to Naftogaz, nearly 100 strike drones hit production facilities, leading to shutdowns of equipment.
Meanwhile, a Russian man, reportedly acting on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence according to Russian state media, was killed after allegedly planning to blow up a Transneft oil pipeline in Russia's Tyumen region. He was said to be in contact with a Ukrainian handler via WhatsApp.
President Zelenskyy shared key takeaways from an intelligence briefing: that Russia is exploiting sanctions through fictitious legal schemes, has deployed Oreshnik missiles to Belarus, and increased its ties with Chinese space intelligence. He also noted a correlation between satellites passing over Ukraine and Russian strikes.
