Sherrone Moore Charged with Home Invasion and Stalking Following Michigan Football Firing
Sherrone Moore, the former Michigan football coach, has been charged with three crimes including home invasion and stalking. He appeared via video in an Ann Arbor court after his abrupt firing due to an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Michigan University cited that Moore’s conduct violated university policy. Moore, aged 39, is married with three daughters.
Prosecutors allege that Moore unlawfully entered the dwelling of a dating partner and terrorized his former girlfriend following his dismissal. The defense argues there is no evidence that Moore poses a threat. Since his arrest on Wednesday, Moore has spent two nights in jail.
Moore had signed a five-year contract with Michigan with a base salary of $5.5 million annually. Due to his firing for cause, the university is not obligated to buy out the remaining years on his contract.
Biff Poggi has been named interim coach and will lead the team while Michigan searches for a new head coach. Poggi previously filled in during a suspension related to an investigation into sign-stealing during the Harbaugh era.
Michigan is scheduled to play No. 14 Texas in the Citrus Bowl on 31 December. The controversy surrounding Moore could potentially impact player transfers and donor willingness, particularly given ongoing issues related to name, image, and likeness (NIL) policies and revenue sharing.
