Sherrone Moore's Turbulent Tenure and Legal Issues at Michigan
Sherrone Moore had not spoken with Michigan assistants for several weeks before a controversial saga unfolded, according to the Detroit Free Press. Earlier in the year, Moore was involved in a heated confrontation with defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, during which Moore berated staffers about recruits and challenged Martindale's football knowledge. He reacted strongly after overhearing assistants discussing recruits, including crying over the pressures of being head coach and slamming papers.
Moore was fired after Michigan stated he had an inappropriate relationship with a staffer and was later jailed following allegations he broke into the staffer’s home and threatened self-harm. Prosecutors report that Moore continued contacting the staffer through phone calls and texts after their breakup, which aided the investigation.
During his tenure as Michigan’s head coach, Moore compiled a 16-8 record, finishing 8-5 in his first year and 7-3 in the current season. He missed two games due to suspension related to a sign-stealing investigation. Moore’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 22, where a not-guilty plea has already been entered at his initial court date.
