Singapore Entrepreneur Loses Six Figures in Crypto to Game Testing Scam
Mark Koh, founder of RektSurvivor, lost 14,189 USDT (about 100,000 yuan) in a crypto malware attack within 24 hours after downloading a malware-laced game launcher for MetaToy. The scam involved a polished website, an active Discord channel, and a responsive team, which made it appear legitimate. Koh joined a Telegram beta test for MetaToy on December 5. The malware infected his device via the MetaToy game launcher and drained all software wallets connected to Rabby and Phantom extensions within 24 hours. Norton detected suspicious activity, but despite performing full-system scans and reinstalling Windows 11, Koh could not stop the funds from being drained. The Singapore Police confirmed they have received a report of the fraud. Koh advised others, especially angel investors and developers who download beta software, to take precautions such as removing seed phrases from browser wallets when not in use and using private keys to limit exposure across wallets. This incident is part of a larger trend of increasing crypto malware and scams. Related warnings include McAfee’s alert in October about GitHub-based banking malware and CertiK’s report of first-half 2025 losses totalling $2.2 billion from hacks and $410 million from phishing, with $1.7 billion lost in wallet breaches across 34 incidents.
