Skipton Named Britain's Happiest Place to Live in 2025 According to Rightmove's 'Happy at Home' Index
Skipton in North Yorkshire has been crowned the happiest place to live in Britain for 2025 according to Rightmove's annual 'happy at home' index. The top ten happiest places include Richmond upon Thames in second place, Camden in third, Harrogate, Woodbridge, Altrincham, Macclesfield, Stirling, Cirencester, and Hexham completing the list. Notably, Camden achieved its first podium finish in the 14 years of the Rightmove survey, with Richmond upon Thames also ranking highly.
Skipton's average asking house price stands at £326,093, which is below the UK national average of £364,833. The 2025 survey collected the views of over 19,500 self-selecting participants who opted in to Rightmove communications. Regionally, residents in the South West reported the highest happiness levels on average, while those in the East Midlands were the least happy.
Factors that correlate with increased happiness regarding where people live include rural, riverside, woodland, or coastal locations and proximity to a national park or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Additionally, happiness ratings tend to rise with age.
