SoftBank Group to Acquire DigitalBridge Group for $4 Billion to Boost AI Infrastructure
On December 29, 2025, SoftBank Group announced it will acquire DigitalBridge Group for $4 billion. The acquisition aims to deepen SoftBank's AI-focused portfolio and strengthen its position amid the booming AI computing infrastructure market.
DigitalBridge, founded in 1991 as Colony Capital, transitioned to focus on digital infrastructure under CEO Marc Ganzi and rebranded as DigitalBridge in 2021. Its portfolio includes Vantage Data Centers, Zayo, Switch, and AtlasEdge, encompassing data centers, cell towers, fiber networks, and edge infrastructure.
As of September 30, DigitalBridge managed approximately $108 billion in assets, ranking it among the largest digital infrastructure investors. Following the deal, Marc Ganzi will continue to lead DigitalBridge as a separately managed platform.
SoftBank’s AI expansion includes the Stargate project with partners OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX, and the establishment of five new computing sites across Texas, New Mexico, and Ohio expected to provide about 7 gigawatts of capacity.
The acquisition signals SoftBank’s strategic move to capitalize on surging demand for AI computing capacity and to position itself centrally in AI development.
