Spanish Authorities Bust Crypto Kidnapping Ring After Deadly Attack
Spanish police have arrested five people and Danish authorities have charged four others in connection with a kidnapping and murder case linked to cryptocurrency theft. The victim was abducted, shot in the leg, held captive for several hours while the attackers attempted to access his crypto wallets, and was later found dead.
The investigation began in April after a woman reported to Málaga police that she and her partner were abducted in Mijas. The attackers, described as three or four masked men clad in black and armed with handguns, ambushed the couple, forced them into a vehicle, and detained them.
Authorities conducted six raids in Madrid and Málaga, recovering two handguns (one real and one fake), a baton, blood-stained clothing, mobile phones, documents, and biological evidence. Danish police, in cooperation with Spanish authorities, charged four individuals; two of them are already in prison for similar crimes.
This case involves a cross-border criminal group suspected of stealing cryptocurrency and highlights the increasing use of violent 'wrench attacks' to forcibly seize wallet access. Officials say the incident reflects a broader trend of escalating violence in crypto-related crimes this year.
