A special honours list will be established to recognise the bravery and kindness demonstrated during and after the Bondi terror attack. These awards, to be presented next year following consultations with the NSW government, will honour acts of courage and meritorious actions by police, emergency services, medical staff, surf lifesavers, and ordinary citizens.

Among those recognised is Ahmed al-Ahmed, a 44-year-old father of two who tackled a gunman and received a $2.5 million donor-funded cheque. Boris and Sofia Gurman were killed attempting to intervene during the attack. Fourteen-year-old Chaya Dadon was shot while protecting two younger children.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that the honours celebrate extraordinary acts of courage and kindness, reflecting the best of humanity, and noted the national and international praise for those involved. Albanese also said he had recommended that Governor-General Sam Mostyn invite Israeli President Isaac Herzog to visit Australia next year; Herzog has accepted and plans to visit soon. Albanese declined to comment on whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been invited and confirmed he had not spoken to Netanyahu since the attack.
