Stefan Bellmont defeated Raymond van Barneveld in straight sets in the first round at Alexandra Palace, marking a significant upset at the PDC World Darts Championship. Bellmont, 36, from Cham, Switzerland, became the first Swiss player to win a World Darts Championship match. Meanwhile, James Wade, ranked world No.7 and a four-time semi-finalist at Alexandra Palace, beat Ryusei Azemoto in straight sets and will face Ricky Evans in the second round.
The night's contest also featured Adam Sevada from the USA defeating Matt Campbell from Canada 3-1 at the start of the session. The evening concluded with Martin Schindler of Germany, seeded 13th, defeating England's Stephen Burton 3-1.
