Stefon Diggs Faces Felony Strangulation Charge Ahead of Patriots' Crucial Matches
Stefon Diggs, the New England Patriots' leading pass catcher this season, has been charged in Massachusetts with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery in connection with an incident alleged to have occurred on 2 December.
A Dedham District Court motion hearing recently considered a defense request to impound police reports and related documents ahead of his arraignment, with a ruling pending. The defense has requested to postpone Diggs' arraignment from the scheduled date of 23 January to March; the court's decision on this matter is yet to come. The arraignment, if not delayed, would take place two days before the AFC championship game.
The Patriots have stated that Diggs denies the allegations and that the team is cooperating with authorities and the NFL as they monitor the situation. This season, Diggs has made 82 receptions for 970 yards and four touchdowns, playing a pivotal role as the Patriots clinched their first AFC East title since 2019. They stand to secure a playoff bye with a Week 18 win over the Miami Dolphins coupled with a Broncos loss.
Off the field, Diggs and his girlfriend Cardi B welcomed their baby boy in November, adding a personal milestone amid these challenges.
