Survey Reveals UK's Most Unwanted Christmas Gifts in 2024
A survey conducted by Which? in January 2025 of over 2,000 UK adults revealed the most unwanted or unsuitable Christmas presents received in 2024. Examples included used pyjamas, rotten fruit such as coconut and pineapple, marmite-scented deodorant, and a Tottenham Hotspur book given to a Chelsea fan.
About 20% of respondents reported receiving a gift they did not want or find suitable. Of these gifts, 33% were kept and used, 15% were kept but not used, and 34% were disposed of in various ways: 12% were passed on to friends or family, 11% donated to charity shops, and 8% sold online.
Among the notable anecdotes was a case where a daughter gave a helicopter ride to someone with vertigo and a fear of flying.
Consumer expert Lisa Webb advised that recipients keep gift receipts to facilitate returns, noting that online orders may have different return policies or gift-status considerations.
The findings were reported by Sky News on 27 December 2025.
