Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race: BNC First Two-Handed Yacht to Reach Hobart in 2025 Edition
BNC – my::NET / LEON, a 35-foot two-handed yacht sailed by Michel Quintin and Yann Rigal from New Caledonia, finished 33rd and became the first two-handed boat to reach Hobart in the 2025 Sydney to Hobart yacht race. The duo arrived at Constitution Dock at 10:40am AEDT on Tuesday, four nights after the Boxing Day start.
Despite being among the smaller boats at roughly a third the length of line honours winner Comanche, BNC remains in contention for overall handicap honours, currently sitting second on handicap times behind Crux as of Tuesday afternoon. Quintin, a former Olympic windsurfer (1988), and Rigal have sailed together for five years and faced challenges such as seasickness and some electronic failures in Bass Strait.
The race began with 128 boats; however, about 34 retired earlier due to seasickness. By 1pm Tuesday, 45 yachts had completed the race. Comanche secured line honours for the fifth time, winning in a close contest with LawConnect and SHK Scallywag 100.
Last year’s overall winner, Celestial V70, was overtaken by other yachts and was knocked out of contention, with skipper Sam Haynes finishing on Monday amid glassy Derwent conditions. Another notable finish was Bacchanal, skippered by Ronald Epstein, who finished the race with emotional tears as the fleet closed the event.
