Tesla Sales Decline in Europe While BYD Surges Amid Growing Electric Vehicle Market
In November 2025, Tesla experienced a significant decrease in vehicle registrations across Europe, with sales falling 34.2% year-on-year in the EU and down 11.8% across the broader EU, UK, and EFTA region. Tesla sold 12,130 cars within the EU in November 2025, a decline from 18,430 units in November 2024, causing its market share to decrease from 2.1% to 1.4%. Meanwhile, Chinese automaker BYD greatly increased its market presence, with sales in the EU, EFTA, and UK rising 221% in November, jumping from 6,568 to 21,133 units. Despite the overall drop in Tesla's European sales, Norway saw a 34.6% year-to-date increase through November 2025, with the Tesla Model Y particularly highlighted. In fact, Tesla reportedly sold more cars in Norway during 2025 than any automaker had previously achieved in a full calendar year, and one month still remained in the year. The rise in electric vehicle adoption continues, with battery-electric vehicles constituting 16.9% of the EU market from January to November 2025, up from 13.4% in the same period in 2024. These figures, reported by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), reflect intensifying competition from Chinese manufacturers like BYD alongside the overall shift toward electric vehicles in the region.
