Tether Adds Nearly $800 Million in Bitcoin, Bringing Holdings Above 96,000 BTC
Tether has added 8,888.88 BTC to its treasury wallet as part of its Q4 2025 profit allocation, bringing its total bitcoin holdings above 96,000 BTC. The transfer was valued at approximately $780 million at current prices.
This purchase aligns with Tether's policy, introduced in 2023, to allocate up to 15% of its quarterly realized operating profits towards bitcoin acquisitions. The policy aims to make Tether a systematic bitcoin accumulator, diversifying its reserves without impacting the assets backing USDT.
Tether's profits are connected to cash-like assets backing USDT, primarily short-term U.S. Treasuries and repos. Therefore, higher interest rates and steady demand for stablecoins can enable more bitcoin purchases. This strategic move underscores Tether’s position as one of bitcoin’s largest corporate holders and reaffirms its status as the world’s largest stablecoin issuer.
At the time of the report, bitcoin was trading around $89,000 by mid-day Hong Kong time.
