TGI Fridays UK Faces Pre-Pack Administration With Potential Closure of 15-20 Restaurants and Job Losses
Sugarloaf TGIF Management, owner of TGI Fridays UK, is finalising a pre-pack administration plan, which could lead to the closure of a significant portion of its 49-restaurant estate. Early estimates suggest that between 15 and 20 sites may be permanently closed, although the final number has not yet been determined. Interpath Advisory is expected to handle the pre-pack administration, with two notices of intention to appoint filed before Christmas.
If the pre-pack proceeds, it could result in the loss of hundreds of jobs, as the UK's TGI Fridays workforce totals nearly 2,000 employees. Despite this, locations are expected to continue operating throughout the process. The pre-pack administration is anticipated to take place in the week starting 2 January 2026, although the timing could be delayed.
The chain was put up for sale in November after being acquired by Sugarloaf TGIF Management, which is headed by Ray Blanchette, the chain’s former chief executive. Previous owners Breal and Calveton had helped stabilise the business, while Hostmore had an insolvency filing in 2024. The chain previously operated close to 90 UK restaurants.
A company spokesperson emphasized that TGI Fridays UK is still assessing its options, no decisions have been made at this time, and all locations continue to operate as usual.
