Three inmates, Stevenson Charles (24), Yusuf Minor (31), and Naod Yohannes (25), escaped from DeKalb County Jail in Decatur, Georgia, on Sunday. Charles is held on charges of murder and armed robbery, while Minor and Yohannes are serving life sentences for murder. The jail is located about 15 miles outside Atlanta.

They hijacked a Lyft ride using a fake female name with the help of Minor's girlfriend who placed the order. During the ride, the driver was attacked, had a rope tied around her neck, and was dragged to the backseat under threats of rape and killing during a 10-hour trip to Florida.

Upon arrival in Florida, the inmates used the driver's credit cards and banking information to rent a property in Miramar and used the driver's car while there. Police tracked the suspects via license plate readers. It was also noted that one of the men had been in contact with outsiders to help evade arrest.

All three suspects were arrested in Florida on Tuesday. The driver was rescued from the rental property and examined for injuries. DeKalb County chief deputy Temetris Atkins stated the escape involved an older section of the jail. Officials are working to fortify similar areas to prevent future breaches.
