Three Inmates Recaptured After Escape from DeKalb County Jail
Three inmates escaped from DeKalb County Jail in Decatur, Georgia, during a routine security check early Monday. The inmates, aged between 24 and 31, faced charges including murder, armed robbery, and arson.
All three were apprehended in Florida, according to a member of the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. Eric Heinze of the U.S. Marshals Service confirmed the recapture and said details would be provided at a news conference in Atlanta.
DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox emphasized that the breach is being taken seriously and that authorities are working to return the inmates to custody. Details regarding how the escape occurred have not been disclosed.
The jail is located in Decatur, about 10 miles east of downtown Atlanta. Authorities warned that the inmates may be armed and are considered dangerous.
