Three People Killed in Moscow Explosion Near Site of Recent Military Official's Car Bombing
Three people were killed in an explosion on Yeletskaya Street in Moscow, including two traffic police officers, Ilya Klimanov, 24, and Maxim Gorbunov, 25, as well as another individual nearby. The blast occurred when officers approached a suspect to be detained, triggering a detonating device that killed all three.
This incident took place near the site where Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov, 56, the head of the armed forces' operational training department, was killed in a car bombing earlier on Monday. Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into the attack on traffic police officers, with spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko issuing a statement via Telegram.
Russian authorities suspect Ukraine behind the recent general’s death, although Ukraine has not claimed involvement and it remains unclear if the two explosions are connected. This marks the third military official killed in bomb attacks in Moscow over the past year. No evidence confirms a direct link between this explosion and Monday’s attack; investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
