Tito (Nasry) Asfura, former mayor of Tegucigalpa and leader of the National Party (PNH), has won Honduras’s 2025 presidential election, defeating Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party and Rixi Moncada of LIBRE.

The final tally showed Asfura receiving about 40.05% of the vote compared to Nasralla’s approximately 39.75%, with a narrow margin of around 8,000 votes. Preliminary results had indicated a slightly wider gap, with 40.3% to 39.5%. About 15% of the tally sheets had to be counted by hand due to chaotic ballot processing and technical glitches.

The results were officially endorsed by two electoral council members and one deputy; however, a third council member, Marlon Ocha, was not seen declaring the winner in a video. Following the announcement, Congress President Luis Redondo of LIBRE called the results an electoral coup and outside the law.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump had endorsed Asfura and warned of consequences if the results were altered. Trump had also previously pledged a pardon for former President Juan Orlando Hernandez. In response to the election outcome, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Asfura on social media platform X and expressed that the U.S. looks forward to working with his administration.

Post-election, Nasralla alleged irregularities, including claims that data were manipulated and a significant number of votes were shifted between candidates. Alongside the presidential vote, elections were held for a new Congress and hundreds of local positions.
