Tom Brady Comments on Philip Rivers' NFL Comeback Amid Own Retirement Constraints
Tom Brady stated that while he could still play quarterback at age 48, he cannot unretire due to being a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. Brady, who first retired on February 1, 2022, briefly unretired 40 days later for the 2022 season before retiring again, faces NFL-unretirement constraints because of his Raiders stake.
Meanwhile, Philip Rivers, aged 44, has made a surprising return to the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts to potentially aid their playoff push. Rivers has not played since ending his playing career in 2020 and has been coaching high school football in Alabama since then. His return was prompted by instability at the Colts' quarterback position after Daniel Jones suffered a torn Achilles—complicated by attempts to play through a broken fibula—and rookie Riley Leonard sustained a knee injury. Consequently, Rivers was signed and has taken first-team reps in practice.
The Colts currently hold an 8-5 record and remain competitive in the AFC South division, trailing the Jacksonville Jaguars who lead at 9-4, with the Houston Texans also at 8-5 as the season approaches its final four games. Brady expressed enthusiasm about Rivers' return, noting it is "cool to see Rivers still able to play and love for the game."
