Tracking ICE and CBP Arrests, Detentions, and Deportations Since Trump’s Inauguration
The Guardian has been monitoring data from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) concerning arrests, detentions, and deportations since the inauguration of President Trump. The data is collected primarily from ICE’s biweekly releases during the fiscal year 2025 (FY2025).
The sources include several official ICE reports: Initial Book-Ins by Arresting Agency and Month, which details arrests; Currently Detained by Criminality and Arresting Agency, illustrating detentions; and Removals for deportations. These data sets provide insight into enforcement trends nationwide under the Trump administration.
However, noted limitations include that arrest figures may undercount the total number since they only capture arrests that result in ICE detention entry. Additionally, the first FY2025 data release incorporates carryover data from the previous fiscal year and over two weeks of FY2025 activity, which complicates straightforward comparisons with earlier periods.
The Guardian has archived detention management statistics releases starting from January 2025, while data from prior releases have been obtained from the Vera Institute for Justice. These ongoing biweekly updates facilitate tracking of immigration enforcement dynamics throughout FY2025.
