Tracking ICE and CBP Data on Arrests, Detentions, and Removals in the US Since Trump's Inauguration
The Guardian US tracks data on arrests, detentions, and removals by ICE and CBP in the United States using ICE’s biweekly data releases starting from President Trump’s inauguration. The data are archived by Guardian US beginning January 2025, while older releases are sourced from the Vera Institute for Justice. Totals are calculated by scraping each biweekly release and comparing them with the previous ones to quantify changes.
Arrest data come from ICE Initial Book-Ins by Arresting Agency and Month for Fiscal Year 2025, although these arrests may undercount the actual numbers since only arrests resulting in entry into ICE detention are included. Detention totals are sourced from ICE Currently Detained by Criminality and Arresting Agency for FY2025. Deportation figures come from ICE Removals for FY2025.
The first FY2025 data release was not visualized by Guardian US because it includes carryover data from the previous fiscal year as well as more than two weeks of arrests and deportations. The dataset is reported every two weeks to provide a detailed view of how many people are arrested, detained, and deported during each reporting period.
