Trump and Zelenskyy to Meet at Mar-a-Lago as Ukraine Pledges to End War
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former U.S. President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet Sunday at Mar-a-Lago in Florida to discuss potential steps to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy stated Ukraine will do whatever it takes to conclude the conflict, emphasizing the importance of negotiating from a position of strength. He called for continued support from Europe and the United States to bolster Ukraine in peace talks.
The discussions come amid heightened tensions, as Russia launched a significant overnight attack on Kyiv using hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles. The assault resulted in at least one death and 27 injuries.
This attack highlights the challenges in advancing peace negotiations, which have stalled over disagreements about final territorial borders. Zelenskyy argued the attack reveals Russian President Vladimir Putin's steadfast approach to the war and underscores the essential role of Western backing in negotiations.
Meanwhile, Trump indicated that he would have the final say on any proposed peace deal, stating that no agreement would be approved without his consent.
