Trump's Name Prominently Added to American Institutions and Initiatives
After appointing himself chair and purging the board, Trump's name was added to the exterior signage of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Despite this, the Kennedy Center officially remains named after JFK by an act of Congress from 1964. Democrats have stated that the board lacks the authority to rename the center, yet the new signage was still installed.
Additionally, the State Department appended Trump's name to the US Institute of Peace located near the National Mall. The government also launched a new site, TrumpRx.gov, and announced plans for 'Trump accounts,' a type of savings for children.
The Treasury has drafted designs for $1 coins featuring Trump to commemorate the 250th anniversary of US independence. The National Park Service added Trump's birthday, June 14, to its free-admission days for national parks, while simultaneously ending or altering free admission policies on other federal holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth.
Trump has also announced plans for a Trump-class navy, promoting USS Defiant posters as part of the initiative. The proposal includes two initial ships projected to cost up to $15 billion each, with potential expansion to a fleet of up to 20 vessels equipped with advanced weapons. Experts have questioned both the strategic value and feasibility of these ships. The move is unprecedented for a sitting president and has been compared to Kaiser Wilhelm II's naval ambitions.
