Trump Shares Misidentified Photo of Bird Killed by Wind Turbine
On December 30, 2025, Donald Trump posted on social media a photo purportedly showing a dead bald eagle beneath a wind turbine, claiming that windmills kill bald eagles. The post was further amplified by a White House account on X with over one million followers. However, the image was misidentified; it actually depicts a falcon killed at a wind farm in Israel eight years prior, not a bald eagle in the United States. The photo was originally taken by Hedy Ben Eliahou of Israel’s Nature and Parks Authority and appeared in a 2017 Haaretz report. According to Haaretz, wind turbines in Israel kill about two dozen birds annually, which has raised concerns among authorities. In fact, zoos running an eagle-breeding program have campaigned against the construction of a wind farm in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights to protect endangered vultures. This incident reflects Trump's broader stance against wind energy, noted in the context of 18 US intelligence agencies reporting to him.
