Two Killed in Midair Collision of Enstrom Helicopters Near Hammonton Airport
On 28 December 2025, two Enstrom helicopters, an F-28A and a 280C, collided midair near Hammonton Municipal Airport in New Jersey, resulting in the deaths of both pilots aboard. The victims were identified as Kenneth Kirsch, 65, of Carney’s Point, and Michael Greenberg, 71, of Sewell. Kirsch owned one of the helicopters, while the other aircraft was registered to M&M Charter LLC of Mountville, Pennsylvania.
Witnesses reported that the helicopters were flying in tandem very closely, a factor which Hammonton police chief Kevin Friel described as likely contributing to the collision. The collision created a debris field approximately 100 yards long. Rescue response began around 11:25 a.m. on Sunday; Kirsch died later at a nearby hospital while Greenberg died at the crash site. Flames from one crashed helicopter were extinguished by emergency responders.
Both pilots had earned private pilot licenses in 2014 and were known to frequently stop for breakfast at the Apron Cafe near the airport. The FAA labeled the incident as a midair collision. NTSB investigators were on the scene and a preliminary report is expected within about 30 days, which will review see-and-avoid factors and the circumstances surrounding the close flight path.
