Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named two close associates of British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua who were killed in a car crash on Monday, 29 December 2025. The victims have been identified as Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.

The incident occurred around midday local time near Sagamu on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, approximately 30 miles from Lagos. Joshua was in the back of a black Lexus, which was reportedly overtaking another vehicle when it lost control and collided with a red Sinotruck parked by the roadside.

Two other people were killed in the crash. Joshua and another injured passenger were taken to hospital and described as stable. Joshua suffered minor injuries and is receiving the best possible care.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) stated that preliminary findings suggest excessive speed and wrongful overtaking were the primary causes of the crash, which are among the leading causes of fatal road accidents in Nigeria.

Joshua had been in Africa following his recent win over Jake Paul in Miami about a week earlier. President Tinubu conveyed condolences over the deaths and wished Joshua a full and speedy recovery.
