UFC Star Ilia Topuria Addresses Extortion Plot Involving False Domestic Abuse Allegations
UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria revealed he is currently facing an extortion plot involving threats to release false domestic abuse allegations unless financial demands are met. Topuria, who holds an undefeated record of 17-0 overall and 9-0 in the UFC, announced he will take a break from fighting for at least the first half of 2026 to address the matter.
He recently won the UFC Lightweight Championship by defeating Charles Oliveira in June. Topuria stated the allegations are completely unfounded and that he has preserved comprehensive evidence including audio recordings, written communications, witness statements, and video materials.
This evidence has been submitted to judicial authorities as Topuria pursues legal action against attempted extortion, falsification of evidence, misappropriation of funds and personal property, and multiple threats. Initially, Topuria remained silent to protect his family’s privacy, but he has decided to speak out to counter false narratives and supports the ongoing legal process to uncover the facts.
Topuria remains the UFC Lightweight Champion, though it is unclear when he will return to competition. The situation involves his partner Giorgina Uzcategui Badell and their two children.
