UK Migration and Asylum Statistics for July 2024 to June 2025
Net migration to the UK for the period July 2024 to June 2025 was 204,000, marking a 69% decrease year on year. Immigration arrivals totaled 898,000 during this period, down 31% compared to the previous year, while emigration increased by 7% to 693,000.
Asylum applications from October 2024 to September 2025 rose by 13% to 110,051. Small boat arrivals between January 1 and December 22, 2025, reached 41,472, increasing by 18% from the same period in 2024. These arrivals accounted for 41% of asylum applications during October 2024 to September 2025.
Returns and deportations increased by 11% with 36,457 removals recorded between October 2024 and September 2025. Meanwhile, 108,085 people were in asylum accommodation as of September 2025, with 34% (36,273) housed in hotels. The government has pledged to end the use of hotels for asylum accommodation by 2029.
Regarding legal migration, 838,908 entry visas were granted from October 2024 to September 2025, a decrease of 22%. Study visas constituted 53% of these visas, with India accounting for 23% of study visa recipients.
Under the one-in, one-out agreement with France, 193 people had been returned as of December 22, 2025. The asylum backlog shows 80,841 applicants awaiting a first decision, while 69,670 refused asylum seekers had appealed. Of the asylum decisions made, 44% granted refugee status, and 42% of appeals resulted in overturning refusals.
