UK Migration Statistics July 2024–June 2025: Decline in Net Migration and Immigration
The UK Office for National Statistics reported that net migration from July 2024 to June 2025 was 204,000, marking a 69% decrease over 12 months and nearing pre-Covid levels.
During this period, immigration totaled 898,000, down 31%, while emigration increased by 7% to 693,000.
Small-boat arrivals from January 1 to December 21, 2025, reached 41,455, an 18% increase compared to 2024, averaging 61 people per boat and constituting approximately 5% of total immigration for the period.
Asylum applications between October 2024 and September 2025 rose by 13% to 110,051.
Returns and deportations during the same period increased 11% to 36,457, about 5% of emigration.
Legal migration visas granted from October 2024 to September 2025 totaled 838,908 entry visas, a 22% decrease; study visas made up 53% of the total, with India accounting for 23% of these.
The asylum backlog included 80,841 individuals awaiting a first decision, 69,670 refused but appealed cases, with around 44% granted refugee status and 42% of refusals overturned.
Under the "one-in, one-out" arrangement with France, 153 people had been returned as of 27 November 2025.
Regarding asylum accommodation, 108,085 people were in such accommodation as of September 2025, with 36,273 (34%) housed in hotels; there is a pledge to end hotel use by 2029.
