Ukraine Strikes Major Russian Oil Refinery with British Missiles, Reports Multiple Explosions
The Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in the Rostov region of Russia was struck by Ukrainian forces using Storm Shadow missiles, according to the Ukrainian General Staff. Multiple explosions were reported, confirming that the refinery—described as a major supplier of oil products in southern Russia—was successfully hit. This facility provides diesel and jet fuel to Russian troops operating in Ukraine.
The United Kingdom granted Ukraine permission last year to deploy Storm Shadow missiles inside Russian territory, with the first known strikes using these missiles occurring in November. In addition to the missile attack, Ukrainian-made long-range drones targeted oil-product tanks at Temryuk port in the Krasnodar region, causing two tanks to burn, as reported by Russian authorities. A gas processing plant in Orenburg, the largest of its type located about 1,400 km from the Ukrainian border, was also hit by Ukrainian drones.
These coordinated attacks signify a broader trend of intensified strikes on Russia's energy infrastructure, reflecting Kyiv’s efforts to curb Moscow's oil revenues amid ongoing conflict.
