UNLV Tight End Tackles Teammate on Goal-Line During Frisco Bowl Loss to Ohio
UNLV lost 17-10 to Ohio in the Frisco Bowl held on Dec. 23, 2025, at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. In the fourth quarter, on a crucial goal-line play from the Ohio 1-yard line, UNLV tight end Matt Byrnes accidentally tackled running back Keyvone Lee behind the line for a 1-yard loss. Despite this mishap, UNLV later scored on a 2-yard touchdown run by quarterback Anthony Colandrea on fourth-and-goal, trimming the deficit to 17-10. Ohio won the bowl game, extending their streak to seven straight bowl victories. The game marked the end of UNLV's nation-longest scoring streak, as they were held to fewer than 20 points for the first time in 35 games. Ohio interim head coach John Hauser guided the team to victory after head coach Brian Smith was fired earlier that month for having an affair with an undergraduate student.
