US Threatens Land Strikes on Venezuela and Sanctions Maduro's Nephews Amid Escalating Tensions
During White House remarks, President Trump stated that the US could begin land strikes targeting drug shipments from Venezuela "soon." This announcement comes alongside increased US efforts to pressure Venezuela, including escalated military deployments and sanctions.
The US Treasury has sanctioned several relatives of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, including his nephews Efrain Campo Flores, Fransciso Flores de Freitas, and Carlos Malpica Flores. Additionally, two more relatives—Franqui Flores and Efrain Antonio Campo Flores, nephews of First Lady Cilia Flores—were also sanctioned in the crackdown.
In a further move, six ships transporting Venezuelan oil have been sanctioned by the US. These actions follow a recent operation involving the seizure of an oil tanker off Venezuela's coast, which the Venezuelan government condemned as an act of piracy.
The operation was conducted with the involvement of the FBI, Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, and Department of Defence, as discussed during a White House meeting with business leaders, highlighting the multi-agency approach to addressing concerns related to Venezuela.
