Usman Khawaja has confirmed his retirement from Test cricket, with his final appearances expected at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the venue where his career began in 2011. Khawaja, the first Muslim to play for Australia, has been a trailblazer who broke barriers throughout his career.

Khawaja invoked religious teachings and criticized divisive politics while calling for unity following the Bondi Beach terrorist attack. He has used his platform to promote messages of inclusion, exemplified by slogans on his shoes—"All lives are equal" and "Freedom is a human right"—that drew ire from the ICC about two years ago.
After a career revival in 2022, Khawaja was regarded as one of the best red-ball openers, with his career marked by multiple resurgences. He intends to continue using his voice to influence cricket culture even after retiring at the SCG.
