Venterra, Renewables Group, Secures £40m Amid Leadership Tensions
Venterra, a renewables group founded four years ago by former Petrofac chief executive Ayman Asfari, is planning a £40 million capital injection expected to be announced in December 2025. The total equity raised by the company to date is £250 million.
Backers of Venterra include Beyond Net Zero, a fund linked to General Atlantic, and First Reserve. Lord Browne, former BP chief executive, sits on Venterra's board as a non-executive director representing Beyond Net Zero.
However, there are reported leadership tensions concerning Asfari's role and the company's prospects for 2026. This fundraising effort comes amid a challenging renewables climate where offshore wind remains important but growth is slower due to shifting investment priorities, partly influenced by US political developments such as a potential second term for Donald Trump.
